Uhm…maybe its just me but I’m not entirely sure I understand why its such a grave (no pun intended…okay maybe a little) situation that comes with Radar being recently ‘undeceased’. Way it seems with people they maintain the same personality they had when they were alive. So why freak out/confuse the poor girl with a ‘zombie panic’ while going through so much to get her zombified big brother back.
Traditionally zombies eat flesh when they go rabid because they’re running on instinct instead of conscious thought – all id no superego. Dogs are just big bundles of instinct that have been conditioned to love people. Who knows how well that love would hold up zombie bloodlust? And Radar had been sitting eating signs for a while, he could have already turned and just more hit the feral stage.
I presume that the reasoning anyway. No one seems to btw giving him due credit for not biting Jenners’ s throat out when he could have earlier.
*Radar had been showing warning signs… he could have just now hit the feral stage.
My phone really fucked that sentence up.
because believe it or not, animals are not people. Our brains are a bit more developed, meaning we can fight our base instincts. A starving animal, no matter how well trained, will try to eat anything it can. Take a look at some stories about people with pets that die and no-one knows for a week or so…typically the dog/cat starts taking bites out of their former “master”. And being a zombie is just a constant “I’m hungry” repeated in your mind over and over.
Actually, while cats and rodents will pretty much invariably eat their masters’ corpses, dogs have been known to sit by their dead masters and guard the body until they starve to death.
Time to go Old Yeller on Radar.
Now i see where james got his eyebrows from
Are we sure he’s a zombie? I mean, I went waaaay back in the archives and he’s always kinda had a zombie-dog look. And a dog narfing uncooked meat off the floor is.. totally normal dog behavior. o.0
I’m not sure what tipped mom off because he seemed to be acting pretty normal at that moment… but I was expecting a zombie dog reveal. It was foreshadowed when someone mentioned animals can zombify, albeit more slowly, and he chewed a zombie hand for a good while. Then there were the passing mentions that he wasn’t eating, and was acting unusually lethargic. And the scene where Jenners went to check on him and he didn’t respond for a while. It seemed to be building tension until you expect him to turn around and go rabid on her, but he didn’t. Still, there have been a lot of clues setting it up for the reader. I’m just not sure how the characters figured it out so suddenly without any new evidence, if they were ignoring all the little clues and he didn’t do anything especially zombie-like as opposed to… normal dog-like.
On second thought maybe it’s his big yellow eyes. Way back in his initial appearances Radar had normal sclera… now they do look more like zombie eyes. Granted they’ve been like that since the zombie hand incident but I guess it just goes to show how inattentive and genre blind this family is.
yeah, the mom noticed the eyes.
Just throwing my 3 cents into the works, I think that the big issue with radar becoming a zambie might be the mom’s attitude with the whole thing. She has some phobia related to the whole ordeal, even though her son was kind of the antithesis to all the preconceived notions she had about the infected. It could be that radar would act perfectly normal, even with being turned into a zambie, but because the mom is so damn freaked out about it, she won’t dare try to test that theory. I’m hoping that either Jennifer or Stacy will prove something, regardless of it being good or bad.
In Doris’s defense though, she seems to have overcome her phobia to some extent. Remember how much guilt she felt over not being able to hug her son, like Arnie did, and compare the more recent scene where Geoff(rey) gave her hope, and she spontaneously hugged him without a second thought. She’s making progress.
