He zombified her? Jesus.
Didn’t see that.
I wasn’t sure at first because of what he said to Stacy. But then Karrie was in a wholly different situation. So it actually made sense to me, that he would open up this as an option.
And I’m absolutely sure that he did not start biting wildly. But asked her both what she wanted and then if she was sure about it.
Called it!! woop!
I was… not expecting that.
Some times blessings become curses and other times curses become blessings. Now instead of dieing in a few months from cancer she can live for years as a zombie.
She certainly seems to be in much better health now than she was a few pages ago. Energetic too. The treatment may be temporary but death is permanent. Not to mention that a few years may be time enough for Dr. Tree to progress his research past preliminary trials.
The moral debates are gonna be off the hook for the next chapter.
And I can’t seem to pin down this character of Katie. That greeting is, like, super totes teenage? Yet I had her for one of those extremely mature, hardworking characters that drive the relationship almost like a responsible mother.
I do suck at this…
Oh, lastly, I hope I’m not being annoying but… which eye IS the red eye? It… Shifts so much…
Check the Cast page, then the last strips in the home with Jenners and mom… Then here…
Should be the right eye, it’s where he got shot, but oh well… it happens
And here’s hoping at least she doesn’t become feral…
Fixed? But it’s still his left eye on this page..
No, it’s his right eye. It’s on HIS right, not ours.
Ok, so Katie is definitely very driven and life goal oriented. But we see that she possesses powerful emotions as she acts quite unprofessionally around James. She hates James for being alive when she thought he was dead, she hates him for forgetting her, hating him is all she could bring herself to care about with only months to live. She still loves him; it’s why she felt such hate for him for hurting her, and it’s why her hate was so powerful.
Now let’s take that a look at the last time we see Katie, she’s bottoming out, desperation and Jame’s kindness are breaking her, and then he does something she’s probably been waiting her whole life for him to do. He takes charge, he lays out a plan, not just for himself but for her and for other people too. He gives her a new lease on life and brings her back into his. She loves him, he’s with her and she’s free again to live her life as a person, as an agent of change. It’s spring time for Katie, she hasn’t felt this good since she was in high school.
Now seeing James is a rush of positive emotions again, where for a time it was a rush of negative ones. And seeing Mr. and Mrs. F, well that’s great too, she hasn’t seen them since graduation (except the funeral maybe) and this is just one more factor making her feel like things are back the way they were. So she’s excited, and around these people who she loved and was loved by she’s going to act like she was when she knew them and was loved by them. It’s natural.
The moral battles here are astounding…with fictional questions like this I’ve always had a very philosophical outlook but seeing it play out in front of you, with characters you can place and identify with…Jesus.
Ultimately the thing that’s going to seal it for many, i think, is consent to the zombification. Did Karrie go along or did James just go Bacon and bite her?
I doubt she’d be so cheerful and upbeat if James had forced it on her, much less willing to help him out with his new project.
Is it just me or am I getting a clingy vibe from her? Maybe the reason he left her was because she was possessive.
Or she’s super thankful not to be dying of cancer…
well technically she still died.
Well, there’s a distinction between being a zombie and being dead dead.
Dying is less severe in the case of the former.
The parent’s face seems to be saying, ‘biggest mistake’ ‘why did he go back to her’
also technically not of cancer
I am agog.
I’m a little surprised people are so surprised.
When Karrie was introduced and we learned she had cancer it seemed so obvious that this would happen.
yeah I’m actually legitimately surprised. .. i guess because the last few have been accurately predicted by the commenters :p
but seriously..it feels like this comic is drawing to a close. the loose ends are.. slowly being sheared . as i like it.
This was foreshadowed PAGES ago in their chat at the cemetary, but everybody dropped it as soon as the next page didn’t feature a new zombie character.
Hmm, I wonder where this will go now that Stacy is (as of now) officially out of his mind. The looks that James’ parents have on their face is a bit disconcerting. Yes, it must be a shock to see her again, but i’m thinking there’s more to it then that…
Why aren’t her eyes yellow? And her skin is much lighter than all the other zombies we’ve seen…
I have a feeling James is going to be in deep shit for this.
Maybe. But then it happened with consent, I’m sure. And she’s a legal adult that was very sick, but still of sound mind and completely capable of making decisions for herself. So I’m really not sure if there was an actual handle on which they could hang him upon.
what if…he gave her the medicine he got from the doc and this is the result?
I was re-reading back at the beginning and i just realized how phallic James’s last name is.
I have a feeling this isn’t going to go well at all.
This page and the previous have the wrong year.
It was bound to happen in january. but fixed.
Ah, the month of chequary. That time of the year starting january first and ending when the last person finally stops to use the previous year on their forms and cheques. :D
I love the big reveal, VERY well drawn.
I recognize that look on his parents faces from a mile away.
That’s the look of seeing their son together with someone who they thought they were finally gotten ‘rid’ of, as they clearly don’t think she’s the best mate for him. And then he go and does something like this and zombifies her.
There must be something James has forgotten. The ring brought back his memories of her. It would be interesting if there was some other “key item” that brings back the memories of their breakup.
It makes sense that he turned her. I figured it was coming. What I don’t get is how she looks better now than she did before. How did her cheeks fill back in so quickly? Wouldn’t she be stuck looking similar to dying state?
“till death do us part” would have been quite the fitting title here. I’m interested to see how this turns out.
